Clippocalypse And The Rise Of The Denver Nuggets

Oh how the mighty have fallen! It was supposed to be a date with destiny, the battle of LA, the clash of the two juggernauts but they just couldn’t finish their date with Denver first.

It would have been unthinkable a week ago but Kawhi, Paul George and co. lost a 3-1 lead against some Nuggets from Colorado. Admittedly 3-1 leads seem to have been a lot more tenuous in the past 5 years or so but that doesn’t diminish how devastating this is for the Clippers and how momentous this is for Denver.

On paper the Clippers were surefire title contenders. They had two of the best two way players in the league. They had a stacked bench, the sixth man of the year and absolutely dominated teams in the regular season. But when the playoffs came round; when the world needed them most, they vanished.

Maybe the Clipper curse is a real thing. Maybe it won’t get broken for the next hundred years but maybe they just got beaten by a better team.

Both Jokic and Murray were absolutely tremendous in Game 7. The latter scored 40 points and was torching defenders sent his way all night while the Joker seemingly had the ball on a string and plodded his way to a huge triple double. They were brilliant, they were exciting and seemed to want to win the game a hell of a lot more than the Clippers did.

Pretty much every team I’ve talked up on Yammer has immediately lost their next game but the Nuggets have proven they’re a good team! They never give up, they have some tremendously talented young players and despite having faced elimination for what seems like the entire playoffs are still standing.

They’re a team that just won’t die and although betting on the Lakers still seems like the smart choice, Denver in 7 just doesn’t sound so crazy anymore.
