This afternoon, Mother Jacinda and Ashley Bloomfield made the announcement that the country has been waiting for: with the exception of the vile and disgusting city of Auckland, New Zealand will be returning to the promised land of Alert Level One.

For everyone except this Yammer blogger, this was excellent news. For me it was merely good. Why? Because it meant that I was wrong. Again.
You see, when I saw The General today he rightly laughed at me for my forced Thiago climbdown over the weekend. Smarting from this, I told him that today he would be following me in with a retraction of his own. I insisted to him that he would be following me in publishing an admission of wrongdoing over yesterday's prediction of a reduction in alert level.
Why did I do that? I could have taken the safe option, waited two hours, and laughed at him after the fact had he been wrong. Not only that, but I knew that a move down alert levels was likely. So why did I open my mouth?
The answer is simple.
I am an idiot.
