Urgent Statement from The General: COVID-19 Alert Level Changes

Okay so I've just watched something unfold in the last 90 minutes or so... Let's get the facts out first so we can talk about it. Auckland will be moving to Alert Level Three and the rest of the country will move to Alert Level Two. This change is going to last for three days and then it will be reviewed. This isn't great, but it needs to be done.

Our whole philosophy as a country throughout this pandemic has been one of caution and making sure it has been done right the first time. We've beaten this virus a few times now and we will do it again. I'm sure of that. Yes, a change in COVID Alert Levels causes mas confusion and angst about the uncertainty of what lays ahead of us. I am here to also reassure you... We will be okay. Everyone will be. It might be best to expect a small spike in cases for a while, but do not be afraid... We are safe. We live in the safest country in the world.

I know many people who hate what this could mean for them if we were to enter another lockdown, but I'm confident we won't do that. My words mean next to nothing, but if I were to say one thing... Look at our history with this virus. Put your politics down for a moment and just look at how great we have done. We have this virus in our back pocket. We'll be okay.

University students will be back on the 22nd of February as well. It'll be a relatively stressful time. There is likely not going to be an Orientation Week. There is possibly going to be an aspect of distance learning that we will need to undergo, but please... Do not stress. Focus on your studies. We have this virus, like I said, in our back pockets.

To everyone... Stay safe, look after one another and make great decisions. We will 100% get through this.
