Pretty new stuff from the NBA. LaMarcus Aldridge of the Brooklyn Nets (that new super team that came out of nowhere) has announced that he will retire after playing a game with an irregular heartbeat. This news sucks from any perspective you look at it. It's just one of those situations that sucks and there is no way around it at all.
I don't need to say that I'm not the biggest Brooklyn Nets guy because we all know that by now. I won't avoid that point, but it sucks to think that a top three draft pick has to retire because of a pretty unavoidable health issue. This isn't how anyone should have to retire. I didn't like his team, but he was still a supportable character within the league. Needless to say, I enjoyed seeing him succeed more than I did some of his teammates or his team.
LaMarcus is a bit of a legend and that's how he will be remembered now that he's retired from professional basketball. It sucks that he can't play because of his irregular heartbeat, but I don't really know what an irregular heartbeat means for his now normal and post-Basketball life. I hope that he can comfortably live without interruption now that he isn't playing. In some ways, his life only just really started. He has so much spare time now to do the things he couldn't do before. If he does need to recover before living a relatively normal life, I hope he does this quickly.
Happy retirement, LaMarcus. Thank you for your contribution to our great game!
