Adventure time, come on grab your friends, we’ll go to very distant lands. With Jake the dog and Finn the human the fun will never end, it's adventure time.
You can probably tell at this point that cartoons and animated T.V shows hold a special place in my heart. There is really something about a beautifully animated show that makes me feel so calm and safe. Whenever I am not doing well I just rewatch all of my favourite cartoons. Animated shows have always been a really important part of my life and I very much enjoy the nostalgia that comes with watching them. It makes me feel like I am a kid again, waking up at like 6am so I can watch Tom and Jerry.
I really like cartoons, I find watching cartoons a really good way to calm myself down and recently I have yet again fallen into watching all the cartoons. ALL OF THE CARTOONS. So if anyone has any suggestions of cartoons I should watch I would greatly appreciate it.
Adventure time was one of my favourites growing up, from the music to the concept to the very cool characters. All of the amazing people who worked on this show clearly put in so much love, time and effort. From voice actors to, story-borders to animators and directors the team working on this show cared so deeply for the characters and the story they were telling. Adventure time started off as just an amusing little show with really no ongoing story but as it gained popularity it started having a proper storyline that developed. This fleshed out storyline is something I absolutely love, small bits of history added about a nuclear war and a show promoting love over war. The storyline is so in depth and well thought out it is hard to believe that it wasn’t there from the start.
This show even produced Rebecca Sugar, the creator of my other favourite animated show “Steven universe." Rebecca sugar writes a lot of the wonderful music that adventure time is known for. Songs like ‘everything stays’ and ‘time adventure’ being particularly popular. Everything stays is one of my personal favourites from the show. It is sung by Marceline and her mother in a flashback and shows some of the incredibly sad storyline that Marceline has. The lyrics 'everything stays, right where you left it, everything stays but it still changes’ this beautiful song shows that there is always a constant in everything. While things change all the time ‘daily and nightly, in little ways, everything stays’ there will always be small parts that stay. As someone who doesn't like change I found this song so calming and peaceful.
I really love the way music is incorporated into the storyline of this show, and how important music is to all the characters. Some play instruments and some just like to hum or sing. It shows a fun and creative side to the characters and also provides for some lovely music.
Sometimes I will just put on the adventure time music in the background while I am doing work because It is just so nice.
My favourite character in the show has to be Marceline. I love the character design, the backstory and her whole personality. The way she still calls the ice king Simon despite the fact he can’t remember that version of himself breaks my heart every time. Her relationship with princess bubblegum was one of the first on screen queer relationships I had seen in a kids TV show and while it wasn’t officially released until the last episode the hints of the relationship still existed before the finale.
I hope you enjoyed reading my take on a cartoon network hit show.
until next time
