Apparently the General is surprised by the fact that I’ve been doing my job properly and “reporting” on something that I was told to. What a dick.
Anyway, the America’s Cup was on again today. As usual, I didn’t watch it because I resent the whole damned thing and am bored by races that are decided withing the first hundred metres. That said, the results were as follows:
Luna Rossa won the first race.
Team New Zealand won the second.
The score is now 3-3, with the first to seven wins being, well, the winner.
Aside from continuing to fulfil my worst-case scenario of taking the tournament the distance, and so forcing me to hear about it for the longest possible time.
I’m on a roll when it comes to writing about sailing though, so I have more to say. Peter Burling, captain of Team New Zealand (or is that Team Emirates? I’m finding it hard to work out just how prominent all these sponsors are), ran his mouth after today’s second race (which Team NZ won). According to him, winning said race by such a large margin was a demonstration of the true potential of Team NZ’s (paid for by the taxpayer) boat.
That’s great Peter. Except, that glorious victory only clawed you back to parity with the Italians, didn’t it? The way I understand the scoreboard, 3-3 means neither team has been better than the other.
Therefore, I think I’ll wait for Team NZ to actually take the lead in the series (which, by the way, they will lose if their current pattern of losing the first race of every day continues) before I put any stock in their professions of superiority.
