The King of Rugby

During the 2021 Halberg awards that were presented Wednesday night, One specific man stood out from all the rest to me. Richie McCaw.

Back-to-back Rugby world champion Richie McCaw was crowned as New Zealand Sportsman of the Decade just last night at the Halberg Awards, beating out other New Zealand sports legends; Mahe Drysdale, Scott Dixon, Brendon McCulllum, Kane Williamson, Tom Walsh and Israel Adesanya.

Now to set the record straight this does say "New Zealand Sportsman of the Decade", however I believe that this award goes on to say that he is the world's best rugby player, of said decade. To prove my point here are some of the things that he's done that no other player can even compare to.

Richie McCaw was the first captain to ever play and win two back-to-back rugby world cups, he was named New Zealand's sportsman of the year twice in 2010 and 2011, and was the captain for the All Blacks when they won Team of the Year in 2006, 2011, 2013, and 2015. That not seem like much, but each one of these years that the All Blacks have won, they have also been the best team in the world at rugby, and the best player among them being none other than Richie himself.

This man really is the Man, the Myth, the Legend, and will forever be in the hearts of us kiwi's.
