Rani posted this yesterday. It’s a pretty good summary of my final America’s Cup piece actually, and you should read it to fully get what I’m about to say.
I agree with him. For the first time the I can remember (hell, possibly ever), I am going to agree with Rani. He is absolutely, positively, one hundred percent correct. It was an awful blog. Just awful and way, way, way below my usual standard.
Really, I cannot understate how absolutely terrible this blog is. I already knew that it was terrible when I posted it.
Why, then, did I do it?
Simply put, I did it out of laziness. I knew I would have to write about the last race, but when I got home I just … couldn’t be bothered. Now, I don’t usually half-arse blogs in such a manner – if I’m not feeling it, I won’t write anything.
But this is the America’s Cup. I can’t stand it, I just can’t. So really, I didn’t care about what I was writing. I just wanted the Cup (and my having to blog about it) to end. Hence the post’s title, which I stand by.
The image I used for the thumbnail followed the same principle. Was it a lazy choice? Absolutely. Not only did it have nothing to do with yachting, as the General has helpfully pointed out, it still has a watermark-like thingy in the bottom corner. That’s not even second-rate blogging, it’s, like, fifth rate. I knew this when I did it. I just did it anyway because I couldn’t be bothered searching for a more appropriate image – that was the first that came up.
So, you see, the lack of effort I put into that post was simply a reflection of my contempt for the America’s Cup itself. And that, while lazy, is rather thematic of my coverage of the tournament as a whole.
