Contrary to Recent Reports, There Will Be No Snow Next Week

Weather forecasters have today declared the possibility of snow in Christchurch next week:

“Starting Monday morning, up to 10 centimetres of snow is expected to fall in some parts of the region 500 metres above sea level. A cold front will then move over the plains, bringing with it the possibility of strong winds and snow showers to sea level in some areas.

Blue Skies Weather forecaster Tony Trewinnard said it was difficult to accurately forecast the full extent of the snowfall until nearer the time but he expected it to be a “notable occasion” for Canterbury.”

I mean, seriously??? What utter nonsense. ‘There’ll definitely be snow, but we don’t actually know if there will be or not’ is essentially what they’ve just said there. Aside from the fact that they’ve created a headline out of nothing (which is good journalism these days, apparently) they don’t even understand the local weather. Here, I’ll explain it:

It does not snow in Christchurch. Ever. I was ten years old the last time it snowed in this city; it didn’t last year, the year before that, or any of the five years before that. And it won’t this year, next year, or the year after that. I guarantee it.

Anyone hoping for this next week is going to be sorely disappointed

So there you go, an accurate forecast of next week’s weather with no ifs, buts, or maybes. They should put me on the news.
