The winningest coach in NCAA History, Mike Krzyzewski, will retire. He needs no introduction. He is an absolute legend of the game. He has decided that he will retire from Basketball, going out on his own terms, and take a winning legacy with him. Perhaps leaving Basketball as the greatest NCAA coach of all time.
I can't say I'm the greatest patron of NCAA Basketball, but I know who Coach K is. Everyone knows who Coach K is. He has a winning mentality that is backed up by all of his achievements. The man is a legend and an all-time great.
I do feel somewhat sorry for whoever replaces him. It currently looks like it will be Jon Scheyer, currently the Associate Head Coach at Duke. The reason I feel sorry for him is that he has the task of following up on the legacy that Coach K has left. I'm not sure anyone can explain how heavy that is to carry. I wish him all the luck in the world because that's a tough legacy to follow. Who knows... Maybe Jon Scheyer as Head Coach will be better. Maybe he will break Coach K's records.
Exciting times for Basketball in Duke and around the world. We get to see what they're like without Coach K next year. It's going to be a really interesting time. Of course, I wish Duke all the best. I can't say I'm a fan, but I wish them (and especially their new Head Coach) all the best.
If I was a betting man (because I'm totally not one, obviously) I would say that the new Head Coach (no matter who it is) will suffer. I don't think they'll be able to keep Duke fully in their current winning ways. I say this confidently, but nowhere near confident enough to actually guarantee this to be the case.
Whatever happens in the future happens. I can't wait to watch it unfold.
